How do you get your ex to make u phis mind if he want to work it out or not?

My ex broke up with me like a month ago. Since then he said that he wanted to be friends. When I asked about getting back together he said that we was tried of the arguing and he needed time to get over everything that I did to him. However, he seems to call me or text me every other day. Yesterday he sent me a text saying " he missed me". I'm not sure if he is playing mind games or if he is making an attempt to get me back. How do I get him to confess if he wants me back or not? What can I do to help him make his decision?
