Would you be allowed to work a civilian job (while off-duty) if you are in active duty in the military?
There are certain rules and regulations regarding this and your commander must approve any outside employment. Two biggies against it are anything where the military member is holding a part-time job that involves carrying a weapon and the other is any job that carries a high risk of financial and fiduciary responsibility. I have known of doctors, flight surgeons and nurses and flight nurses in the past picking up some time down at the local hospital or ER for addtional income and that is usually handled and approved on a case-by-case basis and one of the factors in this is the financial and fiduciary concern and malpractice suits and the hospital or base medical facility commander can disapprove it.
